Ghana has won its first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after para athlete Zinabu Issah claimed silver in the women's F57 Shot Put final in Glasgow with a season's best throw of 8.65 metres.

The 46-year-old, who also represented Ghana at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, produced a season's best throw of 8.65 metres to secure second place in a competitive field of nine athletes.
Issah took an early lead with her opening throw, which ultimately proved enough to guarantee her a place on the podium. India's Sharmila later claimed the gold medal with a throw of 9.81 metres, while Ghana's silver was confirmed after defending champion Eucharia Iyiazi of Nigeria failed to surpass Issah's mark.
Following the event, Issah expressed her delight at achieving the milestone.
"I feel extremely excited. I have won several gold medals at different competitions but winning silver at my first Commonwealth Games is rare. It fills me with so much excitement," she said.
She also thanked Ghanaians for their support, paying tribute to the National Paralympic Committee Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee for helping make her participation possible.
The silver medal marks Ghana's first podium finish of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and provides an early boost for Team Ghana as the competition continues.
