Shattafest UK Cancelled After Police Halt Event Over Crowd Safety Concerns

Shattafest UK, one of the headline attractions of this year's Ghana Party in the Park, was cancelled on Saturday after police halted the event over concerns about the large number of people gathered at the venue.

Shattafest UK, one of the headline attractions of this year's Ghana Party in the Park, was cancelled on Saturday after police halted the event due to concerns about the large number of people gathered at the venue.

The event had already begun when attendees waiting outside were informed that it would no longer continue. Videos circulating on social media show a UK police officer addressing the crowd, stating:

"There are too many people. The event has been cancelled."

The announcement was met with disappointment from hundreds of fans who had travelled from across the UK to attend the festival. Some attendees reported travelling from as far as Leeds to see Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale perform.

In one widely shared video, an attendee can be heard asking about refunds, saying:

"Then we have to get our money back."

The officer replied:

"You'll get your money back, but not today."

## Wider impact

The cancellation is expected to have had a significant impact beyond those who had purchased tickets.

The Ghana High Commission had planned to provide Ghana Card registration services during the event, offering an opportunity for members of the Ghanaian community to access consular services.

The event had also attracted numerous caterers, traders and small businesses, many of whom had invested time and money in setting up stalls for what was expected to be one of the largest gatherings of the Ghanaian community in the UK this year.

## Awaiting further information

At the time of writing, attendees are awaiting further information from the organisers regarding refunds and any future arrangements.

Ghana UK Hub will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
